2024 witnessed the rise of a promising new actor called Abhay Verma. The gargantuan success of the horror comedy ‘Munjya’ catapulted the curly-haired actor to almost overnight stardom. Verma also gained critical acclaim for his performance in the role of Bittu, a shy young hairdresser who soon gets possessed by a menacing spirit. Who Is Abhay Verma?
According to his IMDb profile, Verma hails from Panipat, Haryana. Prior to his acting career, the 25-year-old appeared in numerous advertisements fr several brands.
Verma started his innings as a junior artist. One of his earliest movies was the 2019 Hrithik Roshan-starrer ‘Super 30’ where he was reportedly paid Rs 800 per day.
Verma began his acting career with the series ‘Marzi’, followed by a role in ‘Little Things’. However, it was his performance in ‘The Family Man 2’, alongside Manoj Bajpayee, that marked a significant turning point in his career. In this series, he played Kalyan, a close friend of Dhriti, whose involvement with terrorists became a crucial aspect of the storyline. This role showcased Verma's range as an actor and earned him widespread recognition in the industry.

Recently, Verma appeared in Sara Ali Khan's drama ‘Ae Watan Mere Watan’ as well as ‘Safed’. ‘Ae Watan Mere Watan’ is a historical drama inspired by the life of an unsung hero, offering a glimpse into a lesser-known chapter of history. The film was directed by Kannan Iyer, who made his return to the director's chair after a decade-long break following his debut film, ‘Ek Thi Daayan’.
The actor also gained praise for his nuanced portrayal of a transgender woman in the 2023 film ‘Safed’.
In 2024, he finally had his breakthrough moment. His performance as the bashful yet determined Bittu in ‘Munjya’, endeared him to the masses. The horror comedy emerged as an unexpected success and went on to become the sixth-highest-grossing Hindi movie this year.
In a recent interview, the actor revealed that he came from a middle-class family. He also spoke about a crisis his family faced when his father was diagnosed with jaundice and was sentenced to bed rest, and his mother had to take charge of the family’s well-being. . However, his father’s medical bills had become so overwhelming that they were forced to sell their home. He also mentioned that his mother had taken out a loan to cover his education, which he eventually repaid with the money he earned later in life.
Verma has an older brother Abhishek, who is also an actor. Abhishek is best known for the role Aditya Bhalla in the iconic TV show ‘Yeh Hain Mohabbatein’
